Quiet Please - Examinations in Progress - June 2008

The DCT team carrying out large-scale sewer works for United Utilities in Carlisle has received praise from the local high school’s Deputy Headteacher for ensuring that pupils were not disturbed whilst undertaking their GCSE examinations.

Whilst excavation and pipe laying operations were being carried out, noise levels were monitored using specialist equipment. Derek Kay, Deputy Head at Trinity School wrote: “Can I thank you on behalf of the School for the time and effort you have put into ensuring we had no issues with the exams in the Sports Hall.  I have not received one concern from invigilators or students about noise and have been very impressed with the care DCT have taken in working with us to achieve good exam conditions.  Thank you very much for all your support.”

Work is due to be completed on the scheme in September.

History Lesson in the Park – 4th July 2008

Schoolchildren donned hard hats and high visibility vests for an exclusive tour of our Stanley Park Restoration project.

We are halfway through a 12-month revamp of the historic Liverpool Park and organised the visit for 16 pupils from a local primary school as part of a campaign to inform the local community.  The Year 6 pupils met our onsite Liaison Officer, Kevin McBride and learned a brief history of the park.

Work includes renovating the Gladstone Pavilion, park pavilions, bandstand and footpath, and planting works to the formal terrace, Hillsborough Lodge, fencing and gates.

The children worked in teams for a “design a flowerbed” competition.  Kevin McBride said: “It’s fantastic to see such a positive response from the children."
